Over the years it's become a different sort of monster: something too personal, something too desperate maybe, but something I don't regret for an instant. I grieved for weeks when I renamed all the characters with Western names. Back in those days I thought the hardest thing I would do was rewrite the Foxes as American team. In the beginning Neil was a transfer student to a Japanese high school and all I wanted was to write a "manga" about gay athletes. It started as a comic back in high school, shoddy pictures on lined pages. Above all else, though, it is a labor of (psychotic, obsessive) love. You could call The Foxhole Court a lot of things: ridiculous and unrealistic to name a few, self-indulgent if we're all being more honest. It's part sports fiction, part new adult (for those of you who don't ascribe to the 'new adult' genre, let's say it's young adult coming of age). Today I want to introduce you to a project of mine: The Foxhole Court, book 1 of the All for the Game trilogy. The longer he stays the faster his past catches up with him, but maybe Neil's finally found someone and something worth fighting for.
